Unitary Hack 2023: A Qiskit Time Evolution Tutorial
A FinQ-supported team turned a quantum learning challenge into a tutorial accepted into the Qiskit tutorials repository.
During Unitary Hack 2023, a team supported by FinQ worked on a concrete contribution to the open-source quantum ecosystem: a Variational Quantum Time Evolution tutorial for Qiskit.
Making the method usable
The challenge asked contributors to explain variational imaginary- and real-time evolution using McLachlan’s variational principle, demonstrate the relevant Qiskit classes, and compare gradient methods. FinQ’s June 2023 report names I-Chi, Kaixin and Wenxiang as the contributing team.
A contribution others could use
The tutorial pull request, #1470, was accepted and merged. FinQ’s role was supporting the team; the contribution itself lives in the Qiskit project’s history. The original report and repository commit below preserve that outcome, even as the software and its documentation evolve.
