At IEEE Quantum Week 2025, a FinQ-affiliated collaboration presented a concrete engineering question: what resources do recursive quantum Toom–Cook multiplication circuits actually require?

The work

The paper gives a detailed implementation of quantum multiplication circuits based on the Toom–Cook family. Instead of stopping at asymptotic speedups, the authors analyze exact qubit and gate requirements—the quantities that determine whether an algorithm can eventually become an executable circuit.

The result is a compact but practical contribution to fault-tolerant resource estimation, where arithmetic design choices can change the cost of a much larger quantum application.

The work appeared in the proceedings of the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Quantum Computing and Engineering and was presented in the Quantum Technologies Engineering and Manufacturing poster program in Albuquerque.
